Unit 4
Project One - Master Artwork (Final)
Project Two - Poem Response
Project Three - Series of Four
This piece was inspired by Pablo Picassos Ladies of Avignon. I wanted to make a wall hanging out of it to give my grandma cause she is a big Pablo Picasso fan and I thought that his cubist abstract style would be doable for me. I am really proud of the building aspect of this piece I think the shape, and additional features were shaped and formed to look really well. I think I should have taken more time glazing and incorporating colors from within the entirety of the piece ad not just the colors of the women's bodies.
From the poem I received the concept was that of growing older, change, and a positive outlook around that growth. What stood out and connected with me was a line reminiscing on days spent listening to david Bowie. It reminded me of my mom and her own comments she has made around aging, and his roll in that for her as an important figure in her life. So I took that inspiration and made her a wall hanging of the ziggy stardust lighting bolt, and used a vibrant very Bowie looking green as the background to keep the vibrant look. I am really happy with the turnout of this project and it's vibrance, if I were to do anything differently it would be taking more time to be more detailed and make sure my glazing was perfect.
For my series of four I was running low on time and my thought was to make spoons, unfortunately quite a bit went wrong. To begin the ones hat survived don't look very good, and are far from functional. I lost one and another broke, I had enough time to make another and got to frustrated to make the fourth. I find my glaze work cute, as I was trying to over compensate for their disfunction Next time I would definitely put this project higher up on my priority list to make something I'm proud of.
