Project One - Current Artist Inspired Piece

Unit 5

for this piece I was inspired by an instagram account I found called Claire Laurence, she is a ceramic artist. I liked the idea of a decorative kinda chunky wall hanging of a heart, and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make a memoriam piece for my late Nana. So I hand modeled the shape of the heart and carved out the inside so it was fireable, then i scored and slipped on the puffy circles around the sides to give the piece some depth. Then I found letter stamps and used them to print on my Nanas name. I was really happy with how this piece turned out, how my glaze work looked and just the piece as a whole, if I were to do anything differently it would be to stamp in her name deeper so it showed more clearly, cause after glazing it sorta disappeared. And to maybe use an opalescent glaze for the majority of the piece to really see the stamp work.

Project Two - Mask + Alebrijes

Project Three - Useful Piece

For my Alebrije I was really inspired by the artist Pedro Linares Lopez, after scrolling through his work this piece stood out to me. I like the contrast between the black and white body and the extremely colorful face, and when noticing the face is where it held all its color I got the idea to combine this project with my mask project. I used a bowl as a slump mold and rolled and hand cut the shape of the cats head, and slipped and scored the mouth piece on separately using a dot tool to defined the lines in the mouth. And then for the glaze work behind the piece I tried to follow the picture closely doing y best to duplicate it, and for my own special "artist touch" I made the cat have two different eye colors. I cant say there is anything I dislike about this piece, it quite easily is the best thing I have made, and I only of pride for my work.

For my useful piece I planed on making a large mug/soup cup. I rolled a slab and slipped and scored sides together and added a bottom, then I decided to make it a bit more 3D by handing cutting hearts and slipping and scoring them on. I used underglaze to paint the outside pink and then with glaze I added the white dot detailing, and glazed the inside white, then I used a minty teal color to paint the hearts as well. I didn't thoroughly think through my glazing plan but was quite happy with how it came out i think its fair cute, I should have paid more attention to the inside glazing cause the only flaw is some missed glazed spots where the clay body can be seen.
